Herring, Matthew

Matt uses a montage of found & self-generated graphic material to create assured, vibrant images for the Publishing, Design & Advertising industries. These images are selected from recent projects. They range from book jackets, magazine covers, newspaper features, instore signage, billboard posters, through to direct mail, annual reports & advertising campaigns. The work falls into several stylistic categories. Firstly a traditional collage & photo montage approach used predominantly for editorial work. With other images he’s employed a more graphic approach, using flat colour, vector shapes & simple lines to create a more contemporary feel. Previous clients include: Adobe, Nike, MTV, British Airways, Vanity Fair, Natwest, HSBC, BBC Worldwide, Toyota, Sainsbury’s, BP, Honda, Esquire, Penguin, Corvette, The Times, The Royal Mail, Norwich Union, FT, Computer Arts, which? Bodnar, Mark

Mark Bodnar's work springs forth from the long tradition of cartooning, but he succeeds in making it feel contemporary, rather than treating it as a static object of fetish. His paintings exhibit all of the clarity and directness of the great illustrators of the past and his technique is marked by simplicity, contrast and balance. But his greatest strength lies in the meaning behind the images. Bodnar's work feels more like illustrations to stories that have yet to be written. Creating windows into wonderful worlds is magic of the first order. Mark Bodnar is a master of that particular brand of alchemy.

Steele, Robert Gantt

Robert Gantt Steele loves illustrating the relationship between natural and man made subjects. His paintings of architecture, for example, are made richer by his inclusion of painterly human and natural forms. The human subjects he paints, on the other hand, inhabit a convincingly detailed back ground. Recent projects include a commission by Smithsonian Magazine to illustrate the human character and the atmosphere of a particular small town in France. Robert studies music and is a performer in local San Francisco productions. This helped him create illustrations used for the promotion of Broadway shows such as “Showboat.” He completes several book covers and children’s books as well as many other com- missions each year. Constant studies and sketchbooks fill his free time. Robert was originally trained as an architect in North Carolina and at Berkeley. He completed further study in art in Austria as a Fulbright scholar and then in New York and San Francisco. He recently designed and constructed a new home for his family near San Francisco and is very active in the preservation of historic art and architecture. He loves his work.
