Wilson, Joe

Leicester-born Joe Wilson studied at Leeds Metropolitan University, Graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in Graphic Arts and Design in 2007. After a lifetime of drawing and doodling Joe Wilson became serious about being an artist at an early age and has left himself 'no other option'. Joe Wilson took an interest in printmaking at university and studied this heavily in his final year, with a great deal of his work taking the form of screen prints and etchings. This forms the foundation of Joe Wilson's work today, although since finishing university and leaving the print facilities, other ways of creating similar effects have had to be employed. Joe Wilson's work consists of painstakingly detailed, hand-drawn illustrations, usually in fine-line pen or pencil, that are then scanned and edited on the mac. Joe Wilson takes his influence from an array of sources including old engravings, 70s Vinyl covers and surrealist art. Joe Wilson is particularly interested in ideas of evolution, space, and complex constructions. Joe Wilson's unique drawing style attracts a mixture of different clients from editorial to fashion, he has produced work for clients such as: The Guardian, Adidas, 21st Amendment, Mojo magazine, Prospect Magazine, RKCR/Y&R, The Yards, Peter Werth, The Big Chill Festival, and Topshop. With aspirations to establish himself firmly as an illustrator, he hopes to work on many more commercial projects whilst continuing to produce his personal 'thought experiments' for his own pleasure.

George, Patrick

Walter, Stephan

Stephan Walter lives and works in Zurich where he was born in 1982. Stephan started work in the graphic design world at an advertising agency. During his time at the agency he made up his mind that the only way for him to express his passion in graphic design was for him to become self-employed! Stephan studied Graphic and Media Design at the F&F School for Art and Media Design. After graduating, Stephan pursued his dream. He worked for the F&F School, Freitag AG and for some local bands from Zurich. During this time Stephan was resolving his own style and approach. He quickly developed his own picture language by learning a lot of techniques related to handling alternative design softwares. A year after graduating, Stephan flew to New York to conduct research and development work with Stefan Sagmeister. Stephan has now practiced for six years as an independent illustrator and graphic designer trading under his own brand name of radionacional. Over the last six years Stephan has worked for many clients; many of them in the cultural arena. Stephan's client list includes: David Byrne, Brian Eno, Wired Magazine, Neue Zurcher Zeitung, Columbia University, Volkswagen, die Zeit, Levis, Sagmeister Inc, Elle and many more. Rodriguez, Robert

Born in New Orleans, Rodriguez has lived in California since 1965. He graduated from Chouinard Art Institute in 1969, and began freelancing as an illustrator. Over the years his style has evolved through many phases. He currently illustrates as himself and as the primary artist in his studio 24/7. Some of the projects he’s especially enjoyed working on include the poster for SuperBowl XXVI, The NFL for 2002 Christmas card , movie posters for The Two Jakes, The Jewel of the Nile, and City Slicker’s II, the dvd cover for The Adventures of Robin Hood, the NBA All-Star Game poster, basketball trading cards, six Ringling Bros. Circus posters, posters for the National Hispanic Scholarship fund, calendars and posters for the National Federation of Labor, many covers for Der Spiegel Magazine, theater posters for the Hartford Stage and the Mark Taper Forum. Rodriguez illustrated the Cesar Chavez postage stamp for the United States Postal Service and Designer Carl Herrman. Mr. Herrman has also commissioned Rodriguez for the Cinco De Mayo Stamp and the Celebrate the Century “1980’s” series of stamps. The Cinco De Mayo stamp was the first postage stamp ever jointly.commissioned by the United States and another country {Mexico} He has won five gold medals and four silver medals, as well as two Patrick Nagel Awards from SILA, the Hollywood Reporter Key Arts Award, many regional awards from across the country, the Airbrush Action Achievement Award, and the great teacher award from Art Center.

Oscar Wilson started working in London in 1996. Specialising in image creation, illustration and hand crafted typography, Oscar Wilson produces work for a wide variety of clients, with commissions from the advertising world, fashion, publishing, film and TV. The Red Dress

The Red Dress is a London based Illustration duo, Olivia Chancellor and Ollie Bland. This husband and wife team met while studying Graphic Design and Illustration at Central St. Martins in 1996. The Red Dress' love for all types of Vintage posters (especially B-Movies) and Pulp Fiction illustration has inspired Olivia and Ollie to join creative forces. Drawing upon over 10 years experience in Fashion, T.V/Film, the Art world, Illustration and Design, The Red Dress produce striking, often dark but humorous images by painting Contemporary Culture in a Retro style. Griffo, Daniel

Daniel Griffo was born on March 8th, 1973 in La Plata, Argentina, where he currently resides with his wife Elba, his baby boy Benjamin and his two pets Indiana and Jones. As a young child, he was always drawn towards creating and drawing images. At 10, he took his first steps into the world of illustration with the guidance of his drawing and painting instructor who taught him the basic foundations of the craft. In his teens, he became a self-taught comic illustrator and worked for both Argentinean and Italian publishers. Shortly afterwards, he worked for various studios creating licensed art, where he sharpened his skills and amassed a great deal of experience. As a freelance illustrator, Daniel has worked for many large companies including Image Comics, Warner, DC, and Disney. In his portfolio, you will find traditional and digital images, layout color, story boards, comic book art, inks, lettering, children and adult illustration, character development, and 3D models – Daniel is truly a jack-of-all-trades.

Strain, Peter

Peter Strain is an AOI (Association of Illustrators) Critics' Choice Award-winning illustrator based in Belfast.
He specializes in creating carefully composed, hand-rendered illustration and typography and always tries to experiment with texture and mark-making techniques to keep his work evolving.

Johnston, Ben

Canadian born, Ben Johnston is a 26-year old self-taught designer who grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. Ben started focusing on traditional graphic design, with a preference for creating typographic illustrations from scratch. His industrial design experience gives him the ability to break the confines of 2D and 3D, enabling him to bring his designs to life. With over five years' experience in the creative industry, Ben's portfolio includes a prolific selection of completed projects for renewed ad agencies and major overseas clients-being features on various creative websites. Labrooy, Chris

After graduating from the RCA with an MA in design products, Chris Labrooy first began to use 3D as a simple tool to visualise ideas for furniture and products that he could not afford to produce. As 3D technology and hardware evolved, Chris LaBrooy saw an opportunity to explore CGI as a creative medium in itself with which he could subvert and twist familiar everyday things into new typographic and sculptural forms. Chris LaBrooy is interested in the intersection between typography, architecture, product design and visual art. Chris LaBrooy has exhibited at the design museum in London and has been featured in many publications covering design, products, typography and illustration. Kachik, John

John Kachik is an alumnus and occasional adjunct faculty at the Maryland Institute College of Art where he studied illustration and sculpture. He has been working as a freelance illustrator and fine artist since graduating with honors in 1984. Some of his favorite jobs include work with Shiner Beers, Mini Cooper and Bloomingdale's. His clients include such magazines as Rolling Stone, Forbes, Sports Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week and Texas Monthly as well as publishers like Random House, W.W. Norton & Company, and Simon & Schuster. John's work has been honored by Communication Arts, Graphis, Society of Publication Designers, Society of Illustrators, Print Annual, The Los Angeles Society of Illustrators, American Illustration and the One Show. Roe, Monika

After graduating with a degree in graphic design, Monika Roe worked as an art director and creative director for ad agencies in Los Angeles and Indianapolis. Now a full-time illustrator, some of Monika's clients include: Microsoft, Toyota, Mattel, Diet Coke, Pantene, Coty, Conde Nast Publications, Penguin Group, Doubleday, Random House, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Time Inc., The Wall Street Journal, and Hallmark. Haake, Martin

Martin Haake is an internationally known illustrator and artist. After some years living in London, Martin moved back to Berlin where he lives with his wife and his two sons who both want to grow up to be pirates!(the old fashioned kind of course). He has been working as a freelance illustrator for about 14 years for clients all over the world: Barnes & Noble, The Royal Society of Arts, Penguin Books, The Boston Globe, Travel & Leisure, Elle and the Shangri-la Hotel, Hongkong to name a few. Berry Rhys, Alan

Alan Berry Rhys is a graphic artist and illustrator home based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been a graphic design professor at Buenos Aires University for 8 years. As an artist, I have produced several solo shows at Buenos Aires (Argentina), Rosario (Argentina), San Francisco (CA, USA) and Santiago de Chile (Chile). Gavin, Carolyn

Carolyn currently lives in Toronto, Canada with her family. She is principal designer and creative director for her company ECOJOT. Carolyn also freelances through her agent Lilla Rogers Studios.

Randi is an illustrator and designer who creates hand painted watercolor illustrations and lettering. She earned a BA in fine art and went on to a career in graphic design, art direction and giftware design. Randi was born and raised in Los Angeles where she still lives today. Hall, Tobias

Tobias Hall was born in 1988 and is a freelance illustrator, letterer, designer and mural artist working out of London, UK. Having initially started out life as a conceptual illustrator, Tobias started working with typography and lettering soon after graduating in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. His versatility has meant he’s been lucky enough to work on an eclectic mix of projects for a growing list of international clients. When he's not writing in the third-person, Tobias likes to draw stuff inspired by the music that he listens to or things that he reads. Panczyszyn, Shauna Lynn

Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn is the go-to illustrator for vibrant, hand rendered type and she’s honed her wonderful chalk-board aesthetic down to perfection. Based in Orlando, Florida, her talents go well beyond brilliant lettering. She has a classically trained voice and is also a figure skater. When she’s not in her studio, there’s a good chance she’s at the local rink turning triple axles with her friends.

Her musical tastes change by the season – in the warmer months it’s usually Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie and Zero 7, but in autumn or winter she’ll listen to Pat Metheny, George Winston, Gordon Lightfoot, Mannheim Steamroller or Josh Groban. She loves old advertising and packaging, particularly fruit crate labels and art deco lettering.

Shauna went to the University of North Florida, originally to study opera. However she switched to graphic design, took classes in painting and screen printing, and discovered a love of illustration. After graduating she did an internship in an agency in Jacksonville, and worked in graphic design in Orlando before becoming a freelance illustrator.

You’ll never believe this, but Shauna has only ever worked on a chalkboard once. Despite how incredibly chalky her projects look, they are all digitally produced. Having said that, she does begin in her sketchbook working in a pink pencil because it’s pale and allows her to refine the letterforms as she goes over them with a 2B. An image is then scanned into Photoshop and worked on using a Wacom Cintiq.

It’s Shauna’s custom brushes that really make the difference. She’s spent ages creating them and they ensure that her chalk-look work is as realistic as possible.

In terms of colour, her instinct is to go wild. However, as she points out she doesn’t want her work to look like a rainbow has exploded on it, so she usually cuts her palette back to four bright colours.

Many have called Shauna’s work whimsical. While there’s certainly fluidity and freedom about it she’ll also fill background areas with fine detail. Little words squeezed in here and there allow the client the opportunity to augment and refine a message – or just get more in there! But the secret to Shauna’s style is her desire to please her inner five-year-old. Happy and positive is what she does best and if her work isn’t those things she won’t be satisfied with it.

Ward, Mark

Mark Ward is an artist based in London. His work is derived from his obsession with Americana. Raised on a diet of Saturday morning cartoons, BMX, skateboarding, and drawing, Mark has kept true to his roots soaking up every last candy wrapper and morphing them into his surreal and comical visions. Growing up in the South London suburbs in the late 80’s, Mark was reading every possible American skateboard magazine he could get his hands on. He realized his grey London environment didn’t reflect the sunny California he was being sold in the magazines. Rolling through puddles in South London just doesn’t match up to cruising along Long Beach. Mark’s work mixes the everyday mundane with surreal elements of the 80’s American bubble, encouraging the viewer to see things differently, and peel back the gloss on the pop imagery that he worshipped in his childhood. A graduate of Central St Martins, Mark has been recognized by the Art Directors Club and received a Young Gun Award for his outstanding illustration work. He has exhibited internationally throughout Europe and America, in both solo and group shows. His work was also included in the Pop Art Design show at the Barbican. Alongside his personal work, Mark creates bold imagery for a wide range of commercial opportunities including fashion, magazine covers, editorial and large scale installations. Projects include signature work for Stussy, Burton Snowboards, Nike and Columbia Records. Serge Seidlitz, an English/German hybrid born in Kenya, grew up traveling between the U.K. and Asia, and a steady diet of MTV and Mad Magazine fueled his desire to become an illustrator. He combines elements from popular culture with diverse influences to create work that forms an iconic and graphic language, and explores original ideas through maps, infographics, character design, and other media. Following his studies in graphic design at Camberwell College of Arts, he worked as an in-house designer at Cartoon Network before leaving to focus on illustration. Seidlitz has an ever-evolving list of clients, including The New York Times, The Guardian, NME Magazine, MTV, VH1, Lush Cosmetics, British Airways, Sony Playstation, Vodafone, Orange, Coca-Cola, and Honda. He won an AOI Gold Award in 2006 and his first solo show was mounted in London in 2011.

Adams, Lisa

Born in Vermont, Manhattan based for years -quirky wit and ironic edge inform the illustrations of Lisa Adams. A graduate of the Pratt Institute, Lisa has been making art since she could hold a pencil. This former Tribecan recently relocated to Mystic, CT and now lives on a sheep farm on the ocean. She has painted only 3 sheep so far but she does sail a lot.
