Michael Gambriel Illustration

Hi Iím Mike, and welcome to Mike Gambriel Illustration Iím a freelance illustrator based in the lovely city of Bristol, UK. Since leaving education with a BA in Illustration, Iíve worked for a variety of clients where Iíve produced illustrations for editorial, advertising and book covers. I work digitally using line and colour in a textured and painterly way in keeping with my traditional roots. Iím strongly inspired by 50s illustration and comic book art. Sergio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he currently lives with his wife Viviana and two daughters, April and Emma. As a young child, he was obsessed with a TV series about superheroes. Sergio was so into it that he even dressed up in his superhero costume to explore his neighborhood, jumped over rooftops, and went home to write and draw about his superhero adventures. He has never stopped drawing. In 1989, he graduated from La Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredon with a degree in fine arts. Initially, he worked as an industrial designer, scenographer, and an art director for an advertising/TV firm while simultaneously developing his own short stories. When his first daughter was born in 2000, he started writing and illustrating for children. In his free time, Sergio enjoys designing and manufacturing wooden and paper toys.

Recent illustration graduate Jess Stewart-Croker, is well on her way to carving out a path for herself. Primarily working with traditional media, such as watercolour, gouache and pen and ink, Jess creates painterly and colourful imagery. She has already grabbed a number of impressive assignments for several companies, including several private commissions. Jess can also quite frequently be found with sketchbook in hand making her way through a museum looking for inspiration in the historical references around her. Jessís goal in her work has always been to capture the beauty and detail of an object in a traditional and intricate manner, and itís immediately visible in her imagery from travel to product illustrations. Howell, Sarah

Sarah Howell works mainly with figurative and fashion imagery. Collaborating with photographers, she initiates a work with a collage base, and then scans drawings and paintings with various mixed media techniques to create a textured artwork. This sees photographic collage smattered with graffiti and energized by vivid illustration, creating a dark, often edgy but always beautiful and bright result. Sarah is originally from Sydney, where she studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. Having started out as a music teacher in public schools, Anne shifted to illustration in 1982, finding the quiet space of her studio a much more peaceful place to work. Heiner, Joe & Kathy

In 1964 Kathryn (Kathy) Hughes sat next to me (Joe Heiner) in our sixth grade classroom at Ensign Elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah. While quietly sitting at her desk, Kathy was struck by a ruler hurled at me (I ducked) by our teacher, Mr. Anderson. We became close friends. After the eighth grade, my family moved to Montreal, P.Q. Canada. It was a long time till I saw Kathy again. Kathy's family stayed in Salt Lake City where Kathy later attended East High School. Kathy married, moved to San Francisco and had one son, Michael. After returning to Salt Lake City, Kathy graduated Cum Laude from University of Utah with a BS degree in Social Sciences. She taught nursery school for two years, became a single parent and a secretary for Architects and Planners in Salt Lake City. I attended Beaconsfield High School near Montreal, studied art and photography at Brigham Young University, and Art Center College of Design, married and had two children. I assisted commercial photographers Ed Goldstien and Carl Furuta. I also assisted David Willardson, illustrator, shooting detailed 4X5 photo reference for his airbrush illustrations. Willardson taught me airbrush techniques and helped develop an airbrush / photographic illustration style. My first portfolio of ten photo / illustrations quickly generated assignments from movie studios, advertising agencies, magazines and recording companies. With the help of the same great reps who represented Willardson, assignments came from across the country. This afforded a move back to Utah. Work went well from Utah and I became a single parent. Fifteen years after sitting by Kathy in sixth grade, she married me. We now have five children (combined) and work together in our studio in Alpine, Utah. Our studio continues to create realistic photo / illustration for clients across the country. Kathy is studio manager and stylist. I am photographer / computer illustrator. Early works were a combination of airbrush and silk screen on photographic prints. Current work is digital, a merging of digital photography and computer illustration. We have received numerous awards including The One Show Gold Award and our work is represented in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Baumann, Marty

Marty Baumann has worked as an artist at Pixar Animation Studios as an illustrator, graphic artist and production designer on such films as "Toy Story 3," "Cars 2," "Mater's Tall Tales," and many others. He also helped develop theme park installations, toy packaging and Pixar corporate branding. He continued his studies at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he completed his Masters of Fine Art in 2009. Garofoli, Viviana

Viviana Garofoli was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she currently lives with her husband, Sergio and two daughters, April and Emma. As a child, her favorite pastime was playing with her watercolors and crayons on big sheets of paper; if asked what she'd want to be when she grows up, Viviana would immediately reply, "a painter". In 1995, she graduated from Escuela National de Bellas Artes Pridiliano Pueyrredon with a degree in fine arts. Initially, she devoted her full attention to fine arts and successfully exhibited at numerous galleries in Buenos Aires. Subsequently, Viviana started illustrating for the editorial and textbook market and also engaged in restoration of pictorial works. But, it was not until 1995 that she decided to dedicate all her time to illustrating children's books. Over the last 15 years, she has illustrated over 20 children's book and contributed many editorial and textbook illustrations in Argentina and Puerto Rico. In her spare time, Viviana enjoys working in her garden, tending to her orchids.

Chris Arnold was born in Columbia, Missouri in 1977. He earned a B.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 2002, and an M.F.A. in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007. Basaluzzo, Constanza

Constanza Basaluzzo was born in Argentina in the mid 70ís where she still lives with her husband, Javier Gonzales Burgos and her little kitten, Nina Kodama. She was always drawn to the arts and at the young age of 9, Grandpa Luis (her most enthusiastic fan) decided to sponsor her first drawing and painting class. Since then, she never lost the passion for interpreting the world from a childís point of view - with bright colors, mixed textures, and obsession for details. She graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and concentrated her career on graphic communication for children. She works in digital format and since 2003, has published work in several books, stationary cards, and childrenís magazines in Argentina. In her spare time, she enjoys reading (especially childrenís books!), spending time outdoors with her cat, and visiting toy stores.
