I am a graduate of the Royal College of Art and am currently living in London renovating a large old Victorian house and building a magnificent studio. My time is divided between illustration, painting on location and lecturing. For me all 3 disciplines feed each other, keeping me on my toes and keen to explore new uses for my work. Travel is a very important ingredient in all of this and a strong element within much of my work. The last few years I have been traveling in South Eastern Asia, Northern Africa and Europe. In 1964 Kathryn (Kathy) Hughes sat next to me (Joe Heiner) in our sixth grade classroom at Ensign Elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah. While quietly sitting at her desk, Kathy was struck by a ruler hurled at me (I ducked) by our teacher, Mr. Anderson. We became close friends. After the eighth grade, my family moved to Montreal, P.Q. Canada. It was a long time till I saw Kathy again. Kathy's family stayed in Salt Lake City where Kathy later attended East High School. Kathy married, moved to San Francisco and had one son, Michael. After returning to Salt Lake City, Kathy graduated Cum Laude from University of Utah with a BS degree in Social Sciences. She taught nursery school for two years, became a single parent and a secretary for Architects and Planners in Salt Lake City. I attended Beaconsfield High School near Montreal, studied art and photography at Brigham Young University, and Art Center College of Design, married and had two children. I assisted commercial photographers Ed Goldstien and Carl Furuta. I also assisted David Willardson, illustrator, shooting detailed 4X5 photo reference for his airbrush illustrations. Willardson taught me airbrush techniques and helped develop an airbrush / photographic illustration style. My first portfolio of ten photo / illustrations quickly generated assignments from movie studios, advertising agencies, magazines and recording companies. With the help of the same great reps who represented Willardson, assignments came from across the country. This afforded a move back to Utah. Work went well from Utah and I became a single parent. Fifteen years after sitting by Kathy in sixth grade, she married me. We now have five children (combined) and work together in our studio in Alpine, Utah. Our studio continues to create realistic photo / illustration for clients across the country. Kathy is studio manager and stylist. I am photographer / computer illustrator. Early works were a combination of airbrush and silk screen on photographic prints. Current work is digital, a merging of digital photography and computer illustration. We have received numerous awards including The One Show Gold Award and our work is represented in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Robert Gantt Steele loves illustrating the relationship between natural and man made subjects. His paintings of architecture, for example, are made richer by his inclusion of painterly human and natural forms. The human subjects he paints, on the other hand, inhabit a convincingly detailed back ground. Robert enjoys the research needed to accurately capture the detail as well as the mood and atmosphere of his subjects. Recent projects include a commission by Smithsonian Magazine to illustrate the human character and the atmosphere of a particular small town in France. Robert studies music and is a performer in local San Francisco productions. This helped him create illustrations used for the promotion of Broadway shows such as “Showboat.” He completes several book covers and children’s books as well as many other com- missions each year. Constant studies and sketchbooks fill his free time. Robert was originally trained as an architect in North Carolina and at Berkeley. He completed further study in art in Austria as a Fulbright scholar and then in New York and San Francisco. Michael Paraskevas, a well known illustrator among magazine art directors, has had his work featured in such prestigious publications as Sports Illustrated, Time, Town & Country and Esquire and has earned numerous awards from industry professionals. Michael has exhibited at Giraffics Gallery in East Hampton (6 one-man shows) and recently showed at the prestigious Southampton Gallery owned by Peter Marcelle. Along with his mother Betty, he published many children’s books over the past 12 years. Their work includes the much loved Tangerine Bear, which was produced as a Christmas Special for ABC in 2000. Other popular works by the pair include Junior Kroll, A Very Kroll Christmas, Shamlanders, The Ferocious Beast, Cecil Bunions, and Chocolate at the Four Seasons. The mother-and-son team’s most well-known project, called Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, was developed for Nick Jr. and is still running on Noggin. It won the prized Gemini Award for best animated show of 2001 in Canada. Paraskevas was educated at School of Visual Arts in New York where he also received his Master’s Degree in Visual Journalism. A native Ohioan, Chris O'Leary was born in Youngstown and studied painting at the Columbus College of Art and Design. He worked briefly in Cincinnati for the Gibson Greeting Card Co. and has been freelancing ever since, creating paintings for clients such as Barnes and Noble, Atlantic Monthly, Vegetarian Times, the L.A. Times, Readers Digest, the Boston Globe, Barron's Weekly, and Ohio Magazine. He now lives in Columbus with his wife, Tricia, and daughters, Lily and Kate. Before he had kids, he played finger style guitar, was the project director for the restoration of an urban ravine, and took long bicycle trips, but now he pretty much just watches after the kids...and paints.

John studied Graphic Design at Sheffield, England. It was in the mid 90s that he succumbed to the lure of illustration. He started out painting in acrylic on canvas and was influenced by David Cutter and Edward Hopper. Always trying to keep his work fresh, John has reinvented his style half a dozen times since. His latest incarnation is a screen print effect created digitally and inspired from old adverts and packaging from the 50s. John likes to experiment with different markets. The versatile nature of his style allows him to explore more avenues. Mainly working in editorial, John’s past clients include: BBC, Reader’s Digest, Financial Times and The Guardian.

Stefano Vitale is an internationally acclaimed illustrator and artist. While studying for a degree in Economics at the University of Southern California, he often traveled to Mexico and the Southwest. There he found inspiration in the simplicity of the popular local folk art. This influenced him so much that when he completed his economics degree Vitale continued at The Arts Center in Pasadena, California for a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Vitale’s oil paintings on wood have earned him international awards and a retrospective of his life’s work in his hometown of Padua, Italy. Vitale is best known for his beautiful folk-style which has earned him numerous awards and a reputation as one of the most sought after children’s book illustrators. A "Sunshine State" native, Jamey Christoph studied illustration at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. His stylish illustrations appear regularly in major newspapers,and magazines and have received multiple recognitions from the Society of Illustrators and Communication Arts. After many years in Cleveland's historic Ohio City neighborhood, he and his partner Brad moved to Annapolis MD. Their dogs, Spencer and Owen are always ready for a walk.

Working in oils, Jim Salvati's paintings are textural and layered. He has created paintings for various industries including feature film, the surf industry, advertising and publishing. With a strong interest in portraiture, Jim particularly enjoys painting for the theater. Jim lives, paints and surfs in California and is an instructor at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

I'm a UK based illustrator, brought up in SW England. I spent 4 years studying illustration at art college in Cornwall, followed by a couple of years working at an commercial illustration studio then 20 plus years living in Oxford as a freelancer. I’ve worked for most major publishers and a fair few small ones, during which time I’ve illustrated countless encyclopedias, reference and text books. Several years back I was commissioned by Oxford University Press to illustrate the maps for a history series, ranging from Ancient Romans to WWII. Since then maps have become my speciality. I am the main map artist for BBC History Magazine, my maps have appeared in atlases, books and as posters worldwide. I currently live and work with my family in Somerset on the edge of a village amongst old cider orchards, green fields and mole hills.

Martin Haake is an internationally known illustrator and artist. After some years living in London, Martin moved back to Berlin where he lives with his wife and his two sons who both want to grow up to be pirates!(the old fashioned kind of course). Dutch-born painter and illustrator Robert Wagt has worked in Berlin, Milan and Paris, and is currently in the USA working from Nyack, New York. Richard Faust is rarely without his sketchbook, which can be better described as a visual journal and confessional. Over the years, his bookshelf full of journals have become a source to be mined for interesting ideas and insights. He also draws inspiration from mid-century design, cubism, and folk art. He has been illustrating commercial products for over ten years. After completing his BFA at The Columbus College of Art & Design, he began his career illustrating for magazine and book publishers as well as for the greeting card market. His work was featured in the 2007 Society of Illustrators Annual. His paintings have been exhibited throughout the Cleveland area, including two sold-out solo shows.

Born and raised in northern Ohio, Michael graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in painting. He spent ten years as a toy designer and character developer, before trying his hand at illustration. His work has appeared on many children's products, greeting cards and magazines, and has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators. An avid collector of mid-century art and design since the 80's, Michael's vast array of influences include many modern masters such as Calder and Miro, as well as illustrators like Jim Flora, Alice and Martin Provensen, and Mary Bair. Michael lives in a spacious industrial warehouse loft in downtown Cleveland, where he enjoys painting, cooking and listening to the extensive collection of vintage soul, jazz, and Brazilian music he has acquired over the years.

Anna Lazareva has wanted to be an illustrator since she was a little girl. She started to study drawing when she was 4. Anna graduated from the University in 2007 where she majored in journalism and the history of art. Her thesis project was about the relationship between editorial illustrations and the articles they are created for. She has attended summer courses at School of Visual Arts and Parsons New School for Design. Anna's source of inspirations are: fashion blogs, vintage photos and her travels around the world.
