A "Sunshine State" native, Jamey Christoph studied illustration at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Valentina was born in Cuneo, a small town near Turin, Italy. As a young child, she was always drawing and painting. She spent most of her time creating that she often missed her school bus because she did not want to leave her poor crayons and pencils at home. Growing up, she wanted to be a veterinarian, an archeologist or even an astronaut. However, she spent most of her free time drawing and taking painting classes. As a result, she finally decided to make her great passion into a career. Valentina attended 3 years at IED ( European Institute of Design) in Turin and studied juvenile illustration. Nowadays, she spends her days with her IMAC (a constant love and hate relationship) and her cute but fat cats.

Illustrator, Rebecca Gibbon was born in Wales in 1968. The youngest of four children she was fed on a diet of picture books by Edward Ardizzone, Roger Duvoisin & Richard Scarry; she dreamed of being an illustrator. Her favorite book was "Frances Face-Maker" by Tome Ungerer.

Her ambition was realized after gaining a first class Honors degree from John Moors University and consequently a Masters at Royal College of Art, London. As a girl in the happy land of St. Louis, Missouri, Violet Lemay was always drawing and making things with her hands. Erika LeBarre has always been exposed to art one way or another as she grew up. Her father worked as a car designer for the big three, and her mother was a ceramicist. Erika’s parents always encouraged her creative side. Drawing was her favorite thing to do. Erika graduated from the College for Creative studies with a BFA in illustration. Initially she worked at an art studio with other illustrators and designers for several years. Since then she has worked on her own for a wide variety of clients and projects such as product/packaging labels, posters, point of purchase, signage, direct mail, magazine ads, editorial, greeting cards, grade school textbooks, eBooks, websites, textiles, logos and even character development. Alejandro Okif lives in Buenos Aires with his creative family, his wife Monica (illustrator), son Sebastian (musician) and daughter, Simona (illustrator and tattoo artist). As a young boy, his father who worked in advertising introduced him to the arts. As a result, he was totally hooked and started drawing immediately. When he was at Facultad de Humanidades y Artes de Rosario, he was drawn to Egon Schiele, Rembrandt, Goya, and Lautrec. Nishan Akgulian’s artwork is a product of his love of gestural drawing and the minimalist aesthetic. Combining expressive brush strokes with carefully designed abstract shapes he always strives to give a visual energy to every image he creates. Throughout his career Nishan has applied his unique artistic vision to a wide variety of visual outlets, including editorial illustration, advertising campaigns, greeting cards, product rendering and fashion illustration, as well as fine art and painting. Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn is the go-to illustrator for vibrant, hand rendered type and she’s honed her wonderful chalk-board aesthetic down to perfection. Based in Orlando, Florida, her talents go well beyond brilliant lettering. She has a classically trained voice and is also a figure skater. When she’s not in her studio, there’s a good chance she’s at the local rink turning triple axles with her friends.

Her musical tastes change by the season – in the warmer months it’s usually Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie and Zero 7, but in autumn or winter she’ll listen to Pat Metheny, George Winston, Gordon Lightfoot, Mannheim Steamroller or Josh Groban. She loves old advertising and packaging, particularly fruit crate labels and art deco lettering.

Shauna went to the University of North Florida, originally to study opera. However she switched to graphic design, took classes in painting and screen printing, and discovered a love of illustration. After graduating she did an internship in an agency in Jacksonville, and worked in graphic design in Orlando before becoming a freelance illustrator.

You’ll never believe this, but Shauna has only ever worked on a chalkboard once. Despite how incredibly chalky her projects look, they are all digitally produced. Having said that, she does begin in her sketchbook working in a pink pencil because it’s pale and allows her to refine the letterforms as she goes over them with a 2B. An image is then scanned into Photoshop and worked on using a Wacom Cintiq.

It’s Shauna’s custom brushes that really make the difference. She’s spent ages creating them and they ensure that her chalk-look work is as realistic as possible.

In terms of colour, her instinct is to go wild. However, as she points out she doesn’t want her work to look like a rainbow has exploded on it, so she usually cuts her palette back to four bright colours.

Many have called Shauna’s work whimsical. While there’s certainly fluidity and freedom about it she’ll also fill background areas with fine detail. Little words squeezed in here and there allow the client the opportunity to augment and refine a message – or just get more in there! But the secret to Shauna’s style is her desire to please her inner five-year-old. Happy and positive is what she does best and if her work isn’t those things she won’t be satisfied with it.

Macky Pamintuan was born and raised in Davao, a city in the southern Philippines. As a young child, drawing was his favorite pastime and an activity that brought him delight and satisfaction. Early on, his parents discovered that giving him paper and pencil was a sure way to keep him busy, quiet, and out of trouble. He still remembers the day when he successfully drew Mickey Mouse and Superman, a huge breakthrough and a sweet triumph. He moved to San Francisco at age 21 and in 1998 enrolled in the Academy of Art College to pursue illustration. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in December 2003. When not illustrating, Macky enjoys playing basketball, his other true passion.

Tracy attended San Jose State University and graduated with a degree in graphic design with a concentration in illustration/animation. For the next decade Tracy focused on building a career in graphic and web design, but Tracy's passion for telling stories through pictures persisted. In 2010, she left her design job at a children's museum to focus on being a full-time illustrator. Tracy can now be found working from home in San Jose, CA. I left my career as a financial magazine editor and journalist in 2005 to concentrate on my sideline of illustration full time. I am cover artist for The Week in the US and UK, and other regular clients include The Sunday Telegraph and Moneyweek. I won the (UK) Cartoon Art Trust’s Award for Caricature in 2009, and my first children’s picture book, I Need My Monster by Flashlight Press, has won six State young readers’ awards in the US and been turned into an animated short by University of Colorado, Denver. I have since illustrated five other picture books, plus several dozen black & white children’s novels. I live in Cheltenham, UK, with my wife and two sons.
