Taylor, Gerad

Gerad Taylor, born in Auckland New Zealand in 1960 has worked for over twenty five years as a freelance illustrator catering to the design, publishing and advertising industries.

Gerad graduated with a degree in design and illustration from Massey University School of design in 1984 and has worked in both New Zealand and Australia. He currently works for clients across the globe, in America, Australia, Ireland and the UK. His clients include Coca Cola, Heinle Publishing, Hinkler Publishing, Lion Nathan and many other high profile brand names.

Gerad lives with his wife Anne and children Madeline, Charlotte, and Max in Greytown New Zealand.

Rodriguez, Robert

Born in New Orleans, Rodriguez has lived in California since 1965. He graduated from Chouinard Art Institute in 1969, and began freelancing as an illustrator. Over the years his style has evolved through many phases. He currently illustrates as himself and as the primary artist in his studio 24/7. Some of the projects he’s especially enjoyed working on include the poster for SuperBowl XXVI, The NFL for 2002 Christmas card , movie posters for The Two Jakes, The Jewel of the Nile, and City Slicker’s II, the dvd cover for The Adventures of Robin Hood, the NBA All-Star Game poster, basketball trading cards, six Ringling Bros. Circus posters, posters for the National Hispanic Scholarship fund, calendars and posters for the National Federation of Labor, many covers for Der Spiegel Magazine, theater posters for the Hartford Stage and the Mark Taper Forum. Rodriguez illustrated the Cesar Chavez postage stamp for the United States Postal Service and Designer Carl Herrman. Mr. Herrman has also commissioned Rodriguez for the Cinco De Mayo Stamp and the Celebrate the Century “1980’s” series of stamps. The Cinco De Mayo stamp was the first postage stamp ever jointly.commissioned by the United States and another country {Mexico} He has won five gold medals and four silver medals, as well as two Patrick Nagel Awards from SILA, the Hollywood Reporter Key Arts Award, many regional awards from across the country, the Airbrush Action Achievement Award, and the great teacher award from Art Center.

Adel, Daniel

Daniel Adel has worked as a portraitist, illustrator and fine artist since 1984. His award-winning work has been featured in the pages of the New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and the New York Times, among scores of other noted publications. His work has also appeared on the covers of magazines in the States and abroad, including the New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, and TIME, for whom he painted two covers in 2004. His cover portrait of George W. Bush for TIME’s Person of the Year issue in 2004 is part of the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. He has also been commissioned to paint the Editors-in-Chief of TIME, Der Spiegel, and Vanity Fair.

Carosielli, Todd

Todd Carosielli is a visual artist specializing in creating CGI illustrations for print advertising. For the past 13 years, Todd has been creating compelling visuals and design for clients such as Activision, Atari, Campbell's, Capcom, Dunkin Donuts, Ecko, Fedex, L'Oreal, Lacoste, Lowe's, Limited Brands, M&M, Polo and Victoria's Secret. Todd's experience ranges from being part of the team that created Victoria's Secret's multi-million dollar sub-brand PINK, to designing furniture, illustrating ad campaigns and creating in-game graphics for video games. Copeland, Greg

Greg is an award winning illustrator who specializes in representational art and portraiture, as well as historical and horror/fantasy subjects. He paints both digitally and traditionally with Oils. McIndoe, Vince

Award winning artist Vince McIndoe was born in Canada. After graduating OCAD in 1985 with numerous scholarships, he became a celebrated illustrator as well as a successful fine artist. Vincent was featured in many magazines such as Allure and Applied art magazine. He was also a guest for international TV talk shows. Vincent has designed series stamps for Canada Post; The Canals of Ontario (1998), Toronto’s 200th Anniversary stamp, and 50th Anniversary of All Star Game stamp (2000) as well as a portrait of Queen Elizabeth (1996). Vincent also designed the Hudson’s Bay company’s 325th Anniversary commemorative Silver Dollar. Nielsen, Cliff

Cliff Nielsen studied traditional and digital illustration and graduated as valedictorian from Art Center College of Design in 1994. His illustrations have been recognized for their excellence by the Society of Illustrators, Print, and Spectrum. Feature articles focusing on his work appear in design publications and fanzine magazines alike. Cliff has been an international speaker on digital art and has served as a judge for the Society of Illustrators and a variety of professional illustration award programs. His clients include every major publisher, countless advertising agencies, magazines, and studios. He lives and dreams in Los Angeles, California.

Day, Amber

Being able to create a world for somebody using just lines and colours – that’s what fascinates Amber Day, an LA-based illustrator who’s done stunning work for a range of fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands. “There’s no better feeling to me than being able to tell a story through an image,” she says.

Travel and taste are two of her biggest passions. “I’ve literally eaten my way through Europe, Africa, and Asia, and I love paddle boarding on The Great Lakes,” she explains.

Alongside the travelling and eating, she’s always drawing - fashion, food and beauty. Her visit to Morocco inspired her to draw Moroccan rugs for weeks, and the Red Panda at Nashville Zoo led to an obsession with the species. So far, her favourite city is Prague and she returns there two or three times a year. At home, her best friend and work partner is Kale, a rescue poodle with three legs.

Amber studied for a degree in Visual Communications from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles.

Amber’s bold line work has a natural, sketched feel to it, while the addition of watercolour gives her illustrations an organic look and her restrained use of colour sets the mood. A few years ago, she made the decision to draw products how they’d look when laid out flat and it’s proven extremely popular with clients in fashion and beauty.

When she’s creating culinary sketches, she gives them a personal perspective and includes the nuances of real life rather than aiming for perfection. “I want the viewer to feel like they are experiencing the food as if they are there. The napkin might be placed a little off, French fries might be brown from being cooked too long, and the burger could be half-eaten,” she says.

Jovellanos, Arielle

It’s impossible not to love the comic book style of Arielle Jovellanos. Fresh and light in tone, it’s set to take the graphic novel aesthetic into all sorts of new areas and Arielle is clearly an artist with a passion for visual storytelling.

Her big breakthrough came with her 2015 high school romance School Spirit – 60 pages of high quality artwork. The publication received an Eisner nomination, which is the pinnacle in the world of comics. Today the artist is working with a range of top names in publishing, and looking for new people to collaborate with bringing stories to life.

A Filipina-American, Arielle grew up watching Disney movies and drawing her own variations on Sailor Moon in the margins of her schoolbooks. Today, she loves musical theatre, collects playbills, and her biggest influences are the manga artist Rumiko Takahashi, the book Howl’s Moving Castle, and Studio Ghibli’s movie Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Arielle graduated from Parsons The New School for Design with a dual degree in Illustration and Fiction writing in 2014.

Most of Arielle’s work is entirely digital – she sketches, draws the lines and colours her images on her Cintiq tablet. Pinks, blues and purples form her main palette.

Everything is a character’ is a piece of advice that guides Arielle’s comic art style. It means she focuses on creating tiny narratives within each image, using body language, facial expression, clothing and background detail. This builds personality in her work and makes people viewing it wonder what will happen next.

Turnbull, Tracy

After graduating, Tracy Turnbull worked in fashion design for several years and along the way began accepting illustration commissions for fashion books. Later editorial clients came knocking and it turned into a full-time thing. She combines her career in fashion illustration with teaching the subject at Northumbria University. At her home in Newcastle she has a husband, and a dog called Dave. She’s scared of fish, used to be a goth and has performed at Glastonbury.

Tracy graduated from Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University) with a BA Hons in Fashion Design.

Initial drawings are done either on paper, or on screen using her Wacom Cintiq. Tracy then colours her work digitally using Photoshop.

Just as fashion is always evolving and changing, Tracy likes to keep her work fresh and contemporary. Her style changes a lot, influenced by what’s current in illustration as well as what’s on the catwalk. When she gets bored with one style, she experiments and adapts. Lately, she’s been working in pencil and mixing it with strong colour.

She likes to draw strong characters with unusual features, and her training in fashion design certainly comes in handy when she renders garments. She understands clothing construction, proportions, and how draped fabrics look, which comes across in her work.

Armstrong, Gail

Gail Armstrong has been creating paper sculptures for over 20 years and her enthusiasm for the medium hasn’t waned one snip. She still wants every image she creates to be better than the last, and this approach has led to plenty of awards, including a Cannes Gold Lion for her Kleenex campaign. She finds inspiration in contemporary art and, not surprisingly, the huge Paperchase outlet on Tottenham Court Road in London.

Gail did her foundation course at Sheffield Polytechnic before gaining both a BA and Post Graduate Diploma in Graphic Design and Illustration at Glasgow School of Art.

Though finally rendered in pieces of paper that have been carefully cut and glued together, each image Gail creates begins as a series of drawings. As she explores the composition and various concepts, she focuses on creating something that has both style and substance to it. The result is usually a photograph of her artwork, which viewers love to see more than once, poring over the textures, colours and patterns in the final construction.

Richardson, Jack

Jack Richardson is an English illustrator in New York, with a clean and fresh comic book style that often features a touch of the unusual.

Originally from the South East of England, Jack is now based in Brooklyn where he does what he loves most – drawing.

Some of Jack’s main influences include the classic comic artists Alex Toth, Jean Giraud (Mœbius) and Hergé, as well as the painter Daniel Heidkamp and the photographer Robert Adams.

Jack took a foundation course at Hastings College in the UK, but beyond that his skills are self-taught. “My father is a professional illustrator, so as well as learning from him I got to see what is required beyond good ideas and draughtsmanship,” says Jack.

With his strong, expressive lines and flat colours, Jack’s style is rooted in the world of hero comics. He strives to bring a narrative to each individual image, and there is often an added layer of meaning, a hint of humour or something slightly unusual in his work.

Malan, David

Like all kids, David found he loved to draw at a young age. He stuck with it through his whole life and has developed a frank, accurate approach to portraying the emotions of the subject. His influences have long included many classical artists of the 19th century and Golden Age illustrators. David studied Illustration at Brigham Young University and worked for over a decade as a Disney artist while refining his illustrative style. He can handle a range from light and stylized to realistic and accurate and has worked with clients from editorial, publishing, advertising, video game design, even coin design for the U.S. Mint. David lives with his artistic wife and four muse children in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Harris, Philip

Philip became inspired by art as a child studying his grandfather's old sketchbooks around his home. During university he inherited his grandfather's vast collection of dip pens and began experimenting with dip pen and ink. Becoming fascinated by the style, he still uses the same nibs today as well as devolving to use other mediums such as rotring pens and Photoshop to create his images.

Garnier, Virginie

Virginie Garnier is a french illustrator who graduated from L’ école des Beaux Arts in France and studied Photography, and then Fashion at the Royal Academy of Antwerpen, Belgium. Through the years, she has created a signature style with her pencil drawings creating an unusual and erotic universe, filled with a surprising mixed bag of elements; hot chicks, celebrities, animals and unexpected scenes always represented with a delicate hand and a hyper realistic technique. She is currently living and working in Berlin.

Zafra, Marta

Born in Jaén, Spain, Marta studied Fine Art in Granada, Andalusia and studied an MA in illustration, now her work wins recognition worldwide. Whether it be botanical illustrations or the portrayal of animals and people, her illustrations exhibit a careful solid base in draughtsmanship combined acutely with a subtle intuition for colour, mixed both by hand and digitally.

Flores, Jose Emroca

Jose Emroca Flores grew up in a humble family of four from Northern Nevada where he spent much of his youth actively outdoors skateboarding, playing baseball, and snowboarding. He has always been creative and imaginative on paper and outdoors. Building makeshift skate ramps from scrapwood was the norm in his childhood. He’d round up the kids from the cul-de-sac and they’d skate late into the evenings. He moved to California after high school to play baseball and pursue his art. Emroca later attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco where he learned to develop the ability to materialize his imagination while advancing his technique as a visual artist. On his downtime from school, he’d still skateboard and snowboard and started to surf in the sharky cold San Francisco waters. It was then when he stumbled upon his forever two loves of his life: his new found passion for the ocean and his beautiful wife. When he graduated from the Academy of Art, he immediately went to work as a visual development artist in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. In the course of his work on films, games, animation, books, and advertising, his original oil paintings were shown in galleries across the U.S.

Hutchinson, Andrew

Fur, feathers and fins – they all come out perfectly when painted by British nature artist Andrew Hutchinson. Living on the North York Moors, Andrew is a part-time ranger with the Forestry Commission and monitors the activity of adders and certain bird species in his area to help conserve them, which makes him the perfect choice for any project built around a passion for wildlife.

Being out and about and experiencing nature is a crucial source of inspiration for Andrew, constantly informing his illustrations of the natural world. Andrew has an NDD in illustration from the Cleveland College of Art and Design. In addition to observing the cycles of Mother Nature, he enjoys looking at Jurassic fossils and Oriental antiques. Influences include Alan Hunt, Terence Lambert, Robert Bateman and Ray Harris-Ching.

APPROACH
Andrew paints with acrylic on board. Many of his pictures are inspired by the variety and complexity of forms, textures and colors offered by the natural world.

STYLE
Painting an enhanced form of realism, Andrew aims to achieve an accurate, realistic representation but with a little added something that only a painting can give.

Baker, Alex

Alexandra Baker grew up fascinated by both science and drawing, and like so many other medical illustrators when she first heard about the field it was a eureka moment for her. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, today she’s a leading medical illustrator, working for an array of book publishers and magazines, illuminating some the latest discoveries in medical science.

Texture and atmosphere are important elements in her work. She recalls the day when her father – who worked with electron microscopes – first showed her scans of the surface of a leaf and the proboscis of a butterfly. Today she uses various kinds of nature photography as sources of inspiration. Underwater images help her create the right mood when depicting the human body from the inside, and pictures taken in caves can help with bodily cavities. The branches of trees are reminiscent of arteries, and nature’s textures and patterns provide endless fascination for an artist who is dedicated to getting the details right.

She’s also inspired by the artists Stephen Gilbert and Frank Armitage, both of whom are medical illustrators. Outside of her art, she loves to run and took up training five years back. Since then she’s completed seven marathons and more than 20 half-marathons. A keen reader, she says her house is like a secondhand bookshop.

Billy, Butcher

Butcher Billy is a Brazilian illustrator with a fresh approach, who loves to slice up ideas and imagery in popular culture and reassemble them in unique ways. Juxtaposing everything from Wonder Woman and the Watchmen to Morrissey and Breaking Bad, his work is ironic, humorous and very postmodern. His subtle questioning of pop culture using pop art as his medium is a juxtaposition in itself, yet in their own unique way all his images seem to make sense.

In addition to his illustration work, Billy is a creative director in a digital agency. He lived in the UK for a while, and has travelled widely. With seemingly endless influences at his disposal – including Banksy, Steve Ditko, Shigeru Miyamoto, Malcolm McLaren and Andy Warhol - Butcher Billy never runs out of moods and concepts to explore.

“I like to create freely and then realise bits of an artwork are influenced by the mood of a movie by Tim Burton, the brushstrokes of a piece by Salvador Dali, with a soundtrack from an early album by David Bowie,” he says.

Cooper, Dena

Soft and skilfully painted, Dena Cooper’s fashion illustrations also offer moments of striking contrast and intensity. Her lifelike models look as they could walk right off the page and join in with your conversation.

With a background in fashion design, Dena is now a leading New York illustrator with a growing list of industry clients. Transplanted into Brooklyn from Fredricksburg, Virginia, she loves New York and Fashion Week in particular. “I’m very influenced by street style that I see around the city, specifically the effortless chic that so many New Yorkers exude walking down the street.”

Further inspiration comes from designers like Marchesa, Dior, Delpozo, and Viktor & Rolf, but Dena also loves reading, running, a good cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

Viltovskaia, Elena

Based in Toronto, illustrator Elena Viltovskaia brings a light, expressive and elegant touch to the world of fashion illustration. Working by hand, her flowing line work, textures and patterns are made using techniques she’s developed herself, which lend a unique and personal feel to her clients’ projects. Backed up by many years of experience, Elena works with some of the biggest names in fashion.

Alongside her illustration career, Elena is a designer and an art director. She’s easy to work with and her priority is always to achieve the right look and feel for the project she’s working on, ensuring clients are happy and that the imagery is effective. Originally from Belarus, Elena studied design in her home country for three years, then emigrated to Canada where she received a degree in Communication Design from the prestigious Ontario College of Art and Design.

APPROACH
Elena loves working with water-based media such as ink, watercolors and acrylics. She has honed her craft over many years, developing a special technique to produce gorgeous paint spray patterns alongside her effortless drawing style. Photoshop is also part of her process, and she delivers work digitally.

Dearwater, Andy

Dearwater Illustration has built a national reputation for creating clean and thought-provoking images for some of the world's most notable design firms and agencies. This work has been featured in Communication Arts, American Institute of Graphic Arts Annual, The New York Art Directors Club and The New York Society of Illustrators.

Arnett, Sarah

Sarah Arnett’s beautiful work is renowned for its colourful nature-inspired prints. Sarah’s love of gardening and botanical gardens is key to her work. Studying and interpreting flowers, foliage, land & skyscapes are the starting point of any project. Throughout her work you will find recurring tree motifs to delicate abstract patterns inspired by butterflies and tropical plants, a real visual treat. Sarah’s illustrations develop from the hand-drawn and are then digitally illustrated. Not only a fabulous illustrator and print designer, she also runs her own clothing label and makes beautiful dresses and printed textiles. What excites her the most, is colour, “It’s my real passion”.

Eason, Rohan

London based Illustrator Rohan Eason works predominantly in pen and ink. He is best known for his stark black and white imagery, which plays heavily on the roles of composition and view point, and the balance between intricate detail and dark or light space. His work has become widely used in book illustration and more recently in advertising, where his uniquely hand crafted style stands apart from the more typically used digital art forms.

Although art has run very clearly through his family and his childhood, it was only after leaving university and a painting degree that he decided to pursue illustration as his preferred discipline. Rohan loved the work of Aubrey Beardsley and Arthur Rackham as a boy, and this devotion to and pursuit of the beautifully hand drawn line followed him into adulthood. His portfolio now bursts with the magical and fantastical scenes from dreams to nightmares, from real life to imagined creations, but all with the same single grounding fact, that of beauty and balance.

Field, Peter James

Peter has a degree in world art history and anthropology, specializing in Japanese culture, and taught for three years at state schools in the mountains of rural Japan. His intricate hand-made work focuses on the human figure, and particularly the face. His work is tender, playful and at times surreal. A fascination with the interplay of figurative imagery and abstraction has excited a recent interest in combining stylized subject matter with surface pattern.

Kerr, Sam

Sam Kerr approaches his work with an equal amount of thought placed on the drawing style and concept. “For me, the two are inseparable and as important as each other. To get the best out of an idea, you have to match it to the right medium.”

Although most ventures into different ways of working have come about through a basic need for variety, some were born out of necessity. In 2011, Sam Kerr spent six months bedridden as a result of back problems, so in order to keep up his drawing, learnt to work entirely on his iPhone.

As of December 2011, Sam Kerr returned to his studio with a new back and continues to work on his collaborative projects with illustration collective Lie-ins and Tigers, and new joint venture Interrobang with friend Russell Weekes.

Brickley, Corey

Corey has been announced Merit Winner of the 3x3 Professional Show, reproduced in the 3x3 Illustration Annual No.13.

Corey Brickley was born in the U.S. In 1987 and now lives and works as an illustrator and designer in Philadelphia.

Corey Brickley is a graduate of the University of the Arts' Illustration program in Philadelphia, PA. Corey creates concept-driven illustrations for editorial, publishing, music and advertising. Based in beautiful Bristol, Chris Malbon, AKA Melb is an active member of the area’s thriving art and design scene, regularly giving talks at local colleges and universities. He classes himself as a creative all-rounder, comfortable designing and illustrating from the side of matchboxes to large murals, be it in pencil, pen, paint or pixel, he’s happy using them all.

Edwards, Neil

Neil Edwards lives and works in Wrexham, North Wales. He specializes in Comic Book art, Character Design and Storyboarding.

After graduating with a BA Hons in Graphic Design at Carlisle College of Art and Design, he went on to produce his first commercial work for Marvel in 1996. From there he worked for graphic design agencies before becoming freelance and a marvel exclusive artist.

Since then he has worked on various books including SUPERMAN, FANTASTIC FOUR, DR WHO, SPIDER-MAN, AVENGERS, BATMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE, GREEN LANTERN, TORCHWOOD and HERCULES. His SPIDER-MAN SEASON ONE graphic novel was also a New York Times best seller.

Neil has illustrated for DC comics, Valiant Comics, Marvel Comics, Titan Comics, Dynamite Comics, Lucasfilm, BBC, 2000ad, Disney, Shortlist Magazine, Wrexham Council and Hackney Council.

Schommer, Florian

Berlin based Art Director and Designer working within branding, illustration, editorial design, packaging design and contemporary art. Dividing his time between personal projects and working with a variety of international clients like Sony Music, Penguin Classics, Swatch, The Guardian, Brew Dog, Jura Whisky, The Economist, Columbia Records, JP Morgan & Chase, Skoda, Jägermeister and many more.

Florian performs his own recognizable style, while also being able to adapt to his customers’ preferences. Growing up in the skate & punk scene of the 90s, he later attended art college in Düsseldorf while constantly touring the world with a variety of bands. After winning several Design awards like ADC, German Design Awards, Illustrative Nominee and Red Dot Award he became an official member of Germany’s Art Directors Club.

Moreno, Juan Manuel

Juan was originally from Buenos Aires. As a young boy, he was always drawn to creating images. His first “job” was to color his newborn brother’s head in bright felt pens. He spent most of his childhood years living in the countryside and cultivating his passion for painting. After studying graphic design, he lectured at the university and worked as an in-house illustrator for different studios with clients ranging from Warner, Disney, Conspiracy and Scholastic. In 2003, Juan and his wife, Patricia decided to travel the Americas and ended up living in different countries. In 2006, they finally crossed the pond and decided to stay in Barcelona, where he started a career as a freelance illustrator.

Horvath, Peter

Peter Horvath, born of Hungarian descent into a lineage of photographers, began taking pictures at age 6. After spending his formative years inhaling darkroom fumes, he worked as a stills photographer until he discovered computers in 1995 when a friend gave him a Macintosh Plus. Shortly thereafter, he happened across the work of Dadaists John Heartfield and Hannah Hoch, whose work exposed him to the world of photo-montage. He has since produced digital collage works exploring narrative, abstraction, and the hypnagogic, and continues to push the boundaries of convention, displacing the familiar and nostalgic with unique, surreal touches. Peter’s ability to master bold compositions that convey complex concepts is what makes his work stand out. His impactful images make him a natural choice for the nuances of editorial work, and the call-to-action needs of advertising. His work is featured in the newly published book from Die Gestalten, "Illusive - Contemporary Illustration", as well as an upcoming book on collage.

Wolski, Marcin

Marcin Wolski is an illustrator and graphic designer with several years of experience in advertising, and editorial illustration. He began his artistic journey with traditional media, slowly moving to digital art. He lives and works in Sopot, Poland.

In his illustrations, Marcin tries to capture specific mood using simple shapes, colour and light to distill the essence of the story that he tries to tell in each illustration. His inspirations come from retro games and Polish socialist-era posters as well as modern illustration.

Oliver, Mark

Experienced and versatile, Mark Oliver has a bold, graphical style that is as impactful as it is engaging. His line work, color and compositional skills are second to none, and his background in advertising means he knows exactly how to meet an art director’s brief with innovative new approaches.

Even when he worked at Alliance International, Mark took the opportunity to illustrate his own ads. With over 20 years under his belt as a freelance illustrator, today he creates imagery for some of the biggest brands and top names in publishing. Now based in Worthing on the South Coast, he’s inspired by Raymond Loewy, Hergé and Eduardo Paolozzi. Mark has a degree in Graphic Design from Middlesex University.

APPROACH
Mark has used a wide range of media during his career, from physical painting and collage through to Illustrator and Photoshop. Most projects these days are tackled digitally, but he loves to draw and paint as well if it suits the commission.

Mark works in a variety of styles that he adapts to suit the requirements of a job. His favorite at the moment involves an isometric perspective, geometric shapes and a distressed finish with a retro palette.

Asher, Katharine

Using a dynamic combination of color and the ‘inspired mark’, Katharine Asher’s fluid brushwork and creative flare help secure commissions from clients around the globe, in a wide range of sectors. While she specializes in fashion and beauty, Katherine enjoys tackling a wide variety of briefs, applying her expertise, energy and elegance of line.

As well as her illustration work, Kathy creates conceptual art, exploring process works and installations. Pigment, viscosity and movement are key factors in her art, and occasionally glimmers of her personal work transfer into her illustrations. Tallon, Ben

Loud, lively, frenetic and expressive, Ben Tallon’s artwork captures the many moods of modern life thanks to his instinctive drawing style and ample splashes of ink, brush marks and scribbles. His ability to organize chaotic creativity and turn it into a captivating image is exactly what his clients want.

Growing up in Keighley, West Yorkshire, Ben loved Leeds United, wrestling and video games as a child. They still give him inspiration today, and sometimes feature in his work, alongside pop icons and TV stars. Now located in London, Ben is passionate about creativity and is the author of Champagne and Wax Crayons, as well as the host of the podcast Arrest All Mimics. He has a BTEC in Graphic Design from Keighley College, and a BA in Illustration from the University of Central Lancashire.

APPROACH
Pens, inks, brushes, found materials and textures, acrylics, spray paint, pastels, wax and colored pencils – Ben is very much a mixed media creative. He’ll use worn out old brushes that have a little more depth and character than new ones, and favors the unexpected or happy accident. Photoshop is used to layer everything together and finalize the composition.

STYLE
Ben’s style is loose and organic, full of marks and gaps because he likes to engage viewers by leaving something to the imagination.

Venables, Bob

Bob Venables is the go-to illustrator for any project that requires illustrations executed in a classic style. Matisse, Hogarth, Wyeth, Rackham, Lowbrow… whatever look you’re after, Bob will deliver. He’s a pastiche illustrator par excellence.

Bob has worked on many high profile advertising campaigns, including the Profit Hunter ads for Artemis, which have run for over a decade. His versatility, eye for detail, and ability to evoke the past while conveying contemporary themes to contemporary audiences are what keep clients coming back again and again. Originally from Birmingham, Bob worked in London and established himself on the advertising scene before moving to the Isle of Wight, where life is a little more relaxed. He studied Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins gaining a BA, and did archaeological illustration for a year before becoming a freelancer.

APPROACH
Bob works in a whole range of media, depending on what’s required by the commission. On the traditional side he uses oil, acrylic, alkyd, watercolor, and pen and ink, but he’s also happy working digitally on his Wacom Cintiq.

Patra, Jyotirmayee

Jyotirmayee Patra – also known as JP – is India’s leading artist for custom lettering, playfully embellished with beautifully rendered flowers, intriguing animals, graphic shapes and lively textures.

Based in Rourkela, JP’s passion for calligraphy has led to a career in illustrative lettering, using her talent to imbue her clients’ projects with tone and atmosphere. Botanical drawings and organic patterns are two of her main inspirations, alongside the abstract artist Jessi Raulet. She studied at India’s National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, learned professional calligraphy from Harvest Crittenden, and has taught copperplate calligraphy workshops. JP is a hoarder of unique stationery and pens, loves fairy lights and is a yoga practitioner with an interest in cosmic energy, astral projection and conscious manifestation. “Joining IllustrationWeb was one of my manifestation goals not so long ago, so I believe I have decent manifestation skills!” she says.

APPROACH
Everything begins with an inspiring quote, copy relating to the brief, or a central image. After refining her focal point, JP surrounds it with detailed flowers, characters and foliage, playing with the composition until it’s perfectly balanced.

STYLES
JP’s type and illustrations are infused with nature, with bold main forms softened by whimsical detail. While her earlier type-based work is black and white and emphasizes her rendering skills, her latest images pop with color.

Sheehan, Lisa

Lisa Sheehan lives and works as an illustrator in Bedfordshire. During her BA Illustration at Kingston University (many moons ago) she decided she wanted to become a 3D artist/model maker. Back then that meant literally making the model shooting it and all the faff that went with it, which as a young graduate seemed all a bit too much so Lisa fell into the world of graphic design becoming an Art Director for the Financial Times and spent the next 15 years commissioning CGI artists. The drive to create never left and the desire to produce her own work became so strong that she decided to create the illustrations herself. By working night and day, to grasp the technology of the CGI wizardry, her dreams of ‘model making’ were now back on track albeit within the digital world.

Lisa is a 2D/3D ‘image maker’ producing imaginative CGI illustrations that are often typographical with a pop of colour. Lisa loves to create fun pieces with detailed delicate forms as well as mixing 2D and 3D to create illustrations for advertising and editorial work. The idea that you can, with CGI technology, create almost anything your creative mind can conjure up continues to inspire Lisa every day.

Lisa works part time for the Financial Times as an art director and in-house illustrator, she has extensive magazine cover art-direction experience, having art directed several Financial Times magazines. Lisa is also a published Children’s book illustrator/Author, with an MA in Children’s book illustration from Cambridge school of art.

Koelsch, Michael

Michael Koelsch is an illustrator, designer and digital artist who acknowledges the beliefs of some of the great illustrators of retro era 50's and 60's - the giants like Coby Whitmore and Austin Briggs, who thought that keeping up with the times and evolving your style is as important as your sense of design and color... along with the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

He has worked with every major publishing house, countless advertising agencies, and a large number of design agencies and magazines. Best known for his retro style and horror film posters, Michael Koelsch continues to evolve and adjust his styles for each client.

Miller, Doug John

Doug’s drawings focus on architecture and detail featuring colourful, highly detailed compositions of surreal and fantastical architecture. His architectural drawing has been published and exhibited internationally including at The Royal Academy, The Slade and Roca Gallery’s. His illustration work has been commissioned by publications such as The New York Times, Wired and Empire Magazine. Alongside editorial work Doug has worked for companies such as Netflix on concept design for films, often directly with the film makers themselves, helping bring their architectural visions to life.

Doug completed his bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Architecture at UCL where his project ‘The San Francisco Columbarium’ won him the SOM Fellowship, Bartlett and Donaldson Medals. Doug now teaches part time running architecture and landscape design studios at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.


Giles, Ben

Ben Giles was born in UK in 1992, and currently works as a freelance artist in Norwich. Ben Giles earned a BA in Fine Art at Kingston University. His work is defined by his handmade collages, utilising antique and vintage materials to create often colourful and detailed artworks. The collage often spills into other mediums such as sculpture, paint and illustration.

His work is inspired from many different things such as colour, nature, juxtaposition, children’s encyclopaedias, repetition, metamorphosis. Artistically speaking influences range from Bosch’s complex and surreal character filled landscapes, to the metamorphosing patterns of MC Escher. Artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Rousseau and Miro have defined the balancing of colour and the juggling of shape and composition over the years.

Ben has focused on working with commercial commissions for several years, such as magazine editorials, fashion labels and advertising campaigns. He has also exhibited his work around the world, held creative workshops and partaken in art residencies. His goal is to continue to work with a large variety of clients to explore the further possibilities of his work, while also sharing and exhibiting his creations to as many people as possible.
