Tobias Hall was born in 1988 and is a freelance illustrator, letterer, designer and mural artist working out of London, UK. Having initially started out life as a conceptual illustrator, Tobias started working with typography and lettering soon after graduating in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. Stephan Walter lives and works in Zurich where he was born in 1982. Stephan started work in the graphic design world at an advertising agency. During his time at the agency he made up his mind that the only way for him to express his passion in graphic design was for him to become self-employed! Stephan studied Graphic and Media Design at the F&F School for Art and Media Design. After graduating, Stephan pursued his dream. He worked for the F&F School, Freitag AG and for some local bands from Zurich. During this time Stephan was resolving his own style and approach. He quickly developed his own picture language by learning a lot of techniques related to handling alternative design softwares. A year after graduating, Stephan flew to New York to conduct research and development work with Stefan Sagmeister. Stephan has now practiced for six years as an independent illustrator and graphic designer trading under his own brand name of radionacional. Over the last six years Stephan has worked for many clients; many of them in the cultural arena. Nishan Akgulian’s artwork is a product of his love of gestural drawing and the minimalist aesthetic. Combining expressive brush strokes with carefully designed abstract shapes he always strives to give a visual energy to every image he creates. Throughout his career Nishan has applied his unique artistic vision to a wide variety of visual outlets, including editorial illustration, advertising campaigns, greeting cards, product rendering and fashion illustration, as well as fine art and painting. His work has often been described as whimsical, stylized, expressive, gestural, simple, friendly, fun, and sophisticated.

Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn is the go-to illustrator for vibrant, hand rendered type and she’s honed her wonderful chalk-board aesthetic down to perfection. Based in Orlando, Florida, her talents go well beyond brilliant lettering. She has a classically trained voice and is also a figure skater. When she’s not in her studio, there’s a good chance she’s at the local rink turning triple axles with her friends.

Her musical tastes change by the season – in the warmer months it’s usually Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie and Zero 7, but in autumn or winter she’ll listen to Pat Metheny, George Winston, Gordon Lightfoot, Mannheim Steamroller or Josh Groban. She loves old advertising and packaging, particularly fruit crate labels and art deco lettering.

Shauna went to the University of North Florida, originally to study opera. However she switched to graphic design, took classes in painting and screen printing, and discovered a love of illustration. After graduating she did an internship in an agency in Jacksonville, and worked in graphic design in Orlando before becoming a freelance illustrator.

You’ll never believe this, but Shauna has only ever worked on a chalkboard once. Despite how incredibly chalky her projects look, they are all digitally produced. Having said that, she does begin in her sketchbook working in a pink pencil because it’s pale and allows her to refine the letterforms as she goes over them with a 2B. An image is then scanned into Photoshop and worked on using a Wacom Cintiq.

It’s Shauna’s custom brushes that really make the difference. She’s spent ages creating them and they ensure that her chalk-look work is as realistic as possible.

In terms of colour, her instinct is to go wild. However, as she points out she doesn’t want her work to look like a rainbow has exploded on it, so she usually cuts her palette back to four bright colours.

Many have called Shauna’s work whimsical. While there’s certainly fluidity and freedom about it she’ll also fill background areas with fine detail. Little words squeezed in here and there allow the client the opportunity to augment and refine a message – or just get more in there! But the secret to Shauna’s style is her desire to please her inner five-year-old. Happy and positive is what she does best and if her work isn’t those things she won’t be satisfied with it.

Peter Strain is an AOI (Association of Illustrators) Critics' Choice Award-winning illustrator based in Belfast.

Living right next to a nature reserve in Nottingham, Tim Bradford also has the convenience of being just half a mile from the city centre. From alpine landscapes to geometry and animals, he’s inspired by nature and also loves drawing people of all sizes, shapes and nationalities.

Tim studied for a BA Hons in Illustration at Lincoln University and an MA in Illustration and Animation at Kingston University London.

Everything begins as a pencil sketch, which is then coloured up digitally using Photoshop and Illustrator. Having studied philosophy in Japan, Asako came to Brighton to pursue her childhood love of illustration, in which she achieved a further degree. Since then she has spent some years building a career in Japan, before moving to Greece in 2009. Recent achievements include learning how to swim the backstroke and mastering basic Greek verb conjunctions. Asako likes to find humour and heartiness in everyday life. This, along with a little nostalgia, forms the inspiration for her work.

Nazario is an Italian freelance Illustrator, Graphic Designer and dad. His world is romantic, ironic, dreamy, with good background music. Something like… “a dive in the past with gore-tex lifesaver”. Sara Mulvanny grew up with a paint brush in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. After studying Illustration at Kingston, Sara moved back to her North Hampshire studio which she shares with her cat, Simba. Whilst this cheeky feline tries to walk across Sara's keyboard or balances precariously on stacked sketchbooks, Sara can be found creating her stylised pen and ink drawings, which she digitally transforms with texture and colour. Inspired by the age of Art Deco illustration and muted colour palettes, her charming illustrative style has captured the attention of many clients including Harrods, Sainsbury’s Magazine and Harper Collins.

Simon is a Swedish lettering artist living close to the water in Stockholm. He used to work with signage for a few years, and being around letterforms in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and materials is what started the fascination for typography, and especially lettering. Striking compositions with a lot of smart details and natural flow is what makes his designs stand out among others… and they're all hand-drawn of course! Letters aren’t the only special thing in Simon's life, even though it's a huge part. He also has a passion for specialty coffee, sneakers, dogs, cooking and especially eating food. Well, food is on his mind pretty much all the time!

Lee Hodges comes from deepest, darkest Kernowfornia – also known as Cornwall. The sea and coastline have always been a part of his life, and today he lives on the foothills of Dartmoor, in Devon. In addition to his vibrant, mixed media illustration work, Lee is a DJ and runs club arts nights in the Southwest of England. He loves to explore and experiment with a range of creative media, but drawing was his first love and that’s what drives him as an illustrator.

Chris Andrews is an Illustrator and Printmaker based in Bedfordshire, UK. His work combines striking compositions with strong use of colour and texture, resulting in digital images that have a vintage, nostalgic appeal. Chris is also known for his vintage-inspired British bird and animal screen prints which recall the graphics and fonts found in 1940’s educational books. Billie Jean is a he and not a she. He lives and works in Leytonstone in East London - the birth place of Alfred Hitchcock and David Beckham. Pens, inks, brushes, found materials and textures, acrylics, spray paint, pastels, wax and colored pencils – Ben is very much a mixed media creative. He’ll use worn out old brushes that have a little more depth and character than new ones, and favors the unexpected or happy accident. Photoshop is used to layer everything together and finalize the composition.

Jyotirmayee Patra – also known as JP – is India’s leading artist for custom lettering, playfully embellished with beautifully rendered flowers, intriguing animals, graphic shapes and lively textures.

Based in Rourkela, JP’s passion for calligraphy has led to a career in illustrative lettering, using her talent to imbue her clients’ projects with tone and atmosphere. Botanical drawings and organic patterns are two of her main inspirations, alongside the abstract artist Jessi Raulet. She studied at India’s National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, learned professional calligraphy from Harvest Crittenden, and has taught copperplate calligraphy workshops. JP is a hoarder of unique stationery and pens, loves fairy lights and is a yoga practitioner with an interest in cosmic energy, astral projection and conscious manifestation. “Joining IllustrationWeb was one of my manifestation goals not so long ago, so I believe I have decent manifestation skills!” she says.

Lisa Sheehan lives and works as an illustrator in Bedfordshire. During her BA Illustration at Kingston University (many moons ago) she decided she wanted to become a 3D artist/model maker. Back then that meant literally making the model shooting it and all the faff that went with it, which as a young graduate seemed all a bit too much so Lisa fell into the world of graphic design becoming an Art Director for the Financial Times and spent the next 15 years commissioning CGI artists. The drive to create never left and the desire to produce her own work became so strong that she decided to create the illustrations herself. By working night and day, to grasp the technology of the CGI wizardry, her dreams of ‘model making’ were now back on track albeit within the digital world.

Lisa is a 2D/3D ‘image maker’ producing imaginative CGI illustrations that are often typographical with a pop of colour. Lisa loves to create fun pieces with detailed delicate forms as well as mixing 2D and 3D to create illustrations for advertising and editorial work. The idea that you can, with CGI technology, create almost anything your creative mind can conjure up continues to inspire Lisa every day.

Lisa works part time for the Financial Times as an art director and in-house illustrator, she has extensive magazine cover art-direction experience, having art directed several Financial Times magazines. Lisa is also a published Children’s book illustrator/Author, with an MA in Children’s book illustration from Cambridge school of art.

Chris Long’s studio overlooks the leafy green expanse that is Clapham Common. From there he watches as the world goes by: polished young professionals hurrying for the Tube, children dawdling to school, postmen, joggers, shoppers, tramps and would-be Jeeves. Boy racers, limos, bikes and bikers, hybrids, mom trucks, double decker buses and the occasional horse drawn hearse.

In time, he’ll manage to capture them all in his charming, vibrant paintings that have over the years graced the pages and packaging of many: Mattel’s My Scene, QVC, Glamour, Penguin Books, BBC Worldwide, Vogue, Perrier, Pearson and The New York Times.

Growing up beside the sea, Chris absorbed all the brash colours, bold shapes and surreal incongruity of his hometown and channeled them into his paintings. His distinctive artwork quickly earned him a place in art school and packed off to Rome with a degree in Fine Art, Chris first drew fumetti for the notorious Italian magazine Frigidaire. A long spell at the New Musical Express gave him the chance to decorate their pages with his droll and pertinent characters of the time. Chris joined CWC in the 1990’s and immediately worked with Parco, Hanako, and Shiseido.
